In 1860, Garibaldi starts the movement for Italian unification. Don Fabrizio is an aristocrat trying to maintain the old way of life, despite the changing times. Don Fabrizio sees the rise of the bourgeoisie as a threat. But in an astute manoeuvre, the aristocrat arranges for his nephew Tancredi to marry Angelica, the daughter of a rich and influential land administrator. True to his values, Don Fabrizio thus manages to keep the flame of the old regime burning. The Italian masterpiece by il grande maestro Luchino Visconti, is based on the Tomasi di Lampedusa work of the same title.
