A portrayal of an arrogant upper class fighting to maintain its status after the beginning of an economic crisis in 1980’s Mexico. The director says that “even though these events happened thirty years ago, the portrayal is very contemporary”. Based on the Guadalupe Loaeza novel of the same name, the movie tells the story of the fall into disrepute of Sofia Garay, one of the women who was part of this economic elite. The numerous mirrors forming a semi-circle reflecting Sofia Garay exemplify the magisterial manner in which Alejandra Márquez Abella translates into visual terms the problem of the protagonist’s dissociation and lack of identity. A filmic narrative interrupted by a delirious internal monologue that ends in indecipherable sounds.
